G Suite: How to Verify Your Domain

Why verify?

Once you verify the ownership of your domain, you can start using Gmail, Google Drive, and all the other services included with your G Suite account. 

If you already signed up for G Suite, you will receive an email that says "Activate G Suite." Complete the setup process. Part of the setup process is verifying your domain ownership.

How do I verify?

  1. Get your unique verification record
  2. Add the verification record to your DNS records
  3. Tell Google to verify

Get your unique verification record
  1. Log in to your Domains Dashboard

  2. In Card View, click Manage on the domain you wish to verify.

  3. In List View, click on the Gear icon.

  4. Click on G Suite in the left-hand menu.

  5. In the G Suite page, click Admin.

  6. At the top of the Admin console Home page, click on Click here to continue setting up.

  7. Click Verify

  8. Click Continue to verify your domain with a TXT record (most common). You can also use other methods of verification by clicking Switch verification.

  9. Click Copy to copy your unique verification record.

Add the verification record to your DNS records

  1. Log in to your Domains Dashboard

  2. In Card View, click Manage on the domain you wish to add the verification record.

  3. In List View, click on the Gear icon.

  4. Click on DNS & Nameservers in the left-hand menu.

  5. Click the blue + button to add a DNS record.

Add a TXT (most common)
  • In the Name field, put the @ sign
  • From the Type list, select TXT
  • In the Content field, paste the entire verification record that you copied from your Google Admin Console
  • It is usually safe to set in the 1 hour to 12-hour range
  • Leave the Priority box blank
  • Click Add DNS

Add a CNAME verification record
  • In the Name field, put the @ sign
  • From the Type list, select CNAME
  • In the Content field, paste the long string of text and numbers that you copied from your Google Admin Console
  • 12 hour to 1 day TTL is good
  • Leave the Priority box blank
  • Click Add DNS

Tell Google to verify
  1. Go back to your Admin Console.

  2. Navigate to Verify your domain page.  
  3. At the bottom of the page, click Verify my domain.
