G Suite: How to Upgrade to G Suite

Before You Upgrade

Note that when upgrading to G Suite, mail, contacts, and folders are NOT automatically transferred over to the new G Suite account. You must move these items manually or contact us to have our Professional Services make a move for you. 

How to Upgrade an Existing Mailbox into a G Suite Account?

  1. Log in to your Domains Dashboard.

  2. In Card View, click Manage on the domain where the email exists.

  3. In List View, click on the cog icon.

  4. Look for the email address you want to upgrade to G Suite.

  5. Once the email address is confirmed to exist, click G Suite on the left sidebar.

  7. Enter all necessary information of the mailbox user and copy the Temporary Password.

  8. Select how you would like to be billed from the drop-down menu. If you have an available license (unassigned), you will skip the payment part. Note that it is one license per user/email only.
  9. Click the Next - Checkout button.

  10. You will be routed to the Express Checkout page with the order details.
  11. Click the Checkout button.

  12. The new license will be available for use after a few moments.
  13. If this is your first G Suite Account, it will become your G Suite Admin Account. You will also be required to verify your domain that you plan on using for G Suite.
  14. Wait a moment while your G Suite Account is created.
  15. Click the Admin icon.

  16. Log in to your G Suite account and agree to the terms of service.

  17. Click Accept

  18. Finish the process for verifying your domain from inside your G Suite admin panel.
  19. Go through the initial Google Setup process inside of your G Suite account

Important: As you go through the Google Setup process, you do not need to configure your MX records (we've already taken care of this for you on our end).

Upgrading Mailbox to G Suite FAQs

When upgrading to G Suite, what happens to the original mailbox

The mailbox will continue to exist until you cancel or delete it. However, the original mailbox will not receive any new incoming messages because all new mail for that address will be routed to G Suite instead.

Are messages, calendars, and contacts automatically moved into the new G Suite Account

We currently do not offer a feature that migrates this data for you automatically. You must migrate your data manually in order to preserve it onto your G Suite Account.

Are existing mailbox upgrades (storage, Open-Xchange version) refunded when upgrading to G Suite

We currently do not have an automated pro-rated refund system in place. If you have any mailbox upgrades associated with your account, please contact us for help.

Can Microsoft Exchange mailboxes be upgraded to G Suite

Yes, but messages, calendars, and contacts will need to be transferred manually. Please contact us for help if you want to cancel your Microsoft Exchange mailboxes as a result of upgrading to G Suite.

Are existing mailbox upgrades (storage, Open-Xchange version) refunded when upgrading to G Suite
